Okay last post made little sense to me on rereading it. I think it was something to do with try to ask a hard question while under the influence of 3 glasses of wine, so lets try again.
The has been a lot of talk of control, my question is what is it that we control? Is it the attack that is give to you or the uke. Or is this totally wrong and the only thing that you have to control is ones self?
Okay so we do control ourselves because we have to have the right distance and timing to avoid the attack but after that is it control of uke? Also if t is uke that we control how much control do we have? Is there not many factors to consider when we get this far.
A personal thing on this is this. After learning a techniques from most forms of attacks I came into a situation where I was attacked with a punch to the face I done this in the dojo a hundred times before. The down side was that the uke thought it was good to step back into me. This could have been bad but from the control of the person that I had allowed me to change my technique to deal with the step. Although I walked away with a black eye this was better than a punch in the mouth.
Even here what did I control the attack? No that was over before it started. Was the uke? No if I had control of uke then they would not have been able to move back. So by process of eliminations I must have had a good degree of control over myself.
